Objectives:
- To ensure trainees have a general understanding of what group therapy is and how this treatment modality can by utilized with various populations.
- To ensure trainees understand how they can incorporate the training into respective clinical settings.
- To ensure trainees’ awareness of the variety of group modalities they can utilize to meet their clients’ needs.
- To overview the benefits and drawbacks of facilitating a closed group versus an open group.• To overview the behaviors and issues to expect from clientele during different stages of group therapy and what techniques and interventions clinicians should employ during each stage.
- To overview common problems and barriers that manifest in group therapy and provide trainees with effective ways to resolve these problems and barriers.
- To facilitate a learning environment whereby trainees can interact with their peers in guided group dialogue regarding best practices.

Instructor:
Dr. Donitra Ross
Dr. Ross is a psychology associate, trained to provide individual therapy, group therapy, and couples/family therapy. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Forensic Psychology and a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Professional Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University, Northern Virginia. She has specialized training in providing trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, substance abuse treatment, crisis management/intervention, and supportive therapy for those diagnosed with serious mental illness (e.g., schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder). She also has extensive training and over 10 years of experience in conducting consultation, supervision, and developing/providing continuing education training. Dr. Ross has a specific interest in working with adolescents and adults who have experienced complex trauma, veterans/active duty military, and individuals transitioning into the community after experiencing incarceration. She is passionate about social justice, increasing diversity awareness, conducting clinical research, teaching, and supporting others as they accomplish their goals.
BASICS Training Institute, LLC is a subsidiary of BASICS Group Practice, LLC that offers training, consultative services, and continuing education instruction/programs.
BASICS Training Institute will provide Certificates of Completion to participants that pre-register at the conclusion of training. Participants must complete the full breadth of training and hand in a completed program evaluation in order to receive certificate of completion. For participants who registered day of training and are in full attendance, a Certificate of Completion will be sent within 30 days of the training. If walk-in participant needs Certificate of Completion sooner a special request may be made by calling our office at (301) 420-1972. Certificate of completion with adjusted CE hours, in some cases, may be provided to participants who have attended part of training, either arriving late or leaving early.
If your discipline or State of licensure is not listed, please contact your licensing board to determine and/or verify whether or not training can be applied toward your continuing education requirements.
MARYLAND SOCIAL WORKERS: This training is approved for 3.0 clock hours of continuing education instruction. The Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners (MD BSWE) recognizes BASICS Training Institute trainings and instructors who are provisionally approved by the MD BSWE. A certificate of completion will be provided after the completion of the program. A completed program evaluation must be submitted by registrant in order to receive certificate of completion.
DC SOCIAL WORKERS: This training is approved for 3.0 clock hours of continuing education instruction. The District of Columbia Board of Social Work recognizes BTI trainings and instructors who are provisionally approved by the District of Columbia Board of Social Work. A certificate of completion will be provided after the completion of the program. A completed program evaluation must be submitted by registrant in order to receive certificate of completion.
MARYLAND & DC COUNSELORS: This training is approved for 3.0 hours of continuing education instruction. The NBCC (National Board of Certified Counselors) recognizes BTI trainings and instructors that are approved by the NBCC. A certificate of completion will be provided after the completion of the program. A completed program evaluation must be submitted by registrant in order to receive certificate of completion.
MARRIAGE & FAMILY THERAPISTS: This training is approved for 3.0 clock hours of continuing education instruction. The NBCC (National Board of Certified Counselors) recognizes BTI trainings and instructors that are approved by the NBCC. A certificate of completion will be provided after the completion of the program. A completed program evaluation must be submitted by registrant in order to receive certificate of completion.
